If your child already has a second language at home, preserving that language will help the child maintain link with family, grandparents, community and culture. They will love talking to you in that language when you get old.
1. It is much easier and economical to learn and master your community language than to learn any other second language.
3. If you can’t help your child preserve community language at primary school, it may be too late. At high school, pressure from other subject and HSC will not leave enough time for second language or community language. Nor surprising most second generation Australians have been losing their community language over the decades. The few who are able to preserve their community language have only stunted skill in that language.
